The Bauchi state urban water and sewerage corporation’s newly inaugurated mobile court has sentenced a resident, Abdullahi Kabiru, to one year imprisonment with an option a ₦200,000 for stealing water in Shingen Abbah community.
Justice Zainab, who presided over the mobile court, handed down the sentence on Monday as part of a crackdown on water-related crimes across the state, including theft and illegal connections.
Speaking shortly after the judgment, the corporation’s spokesperson, Comrade Umar Jibrin, described the mobile court as a pivotal step in safeguarding Bauchi State’s water resources.
According to him, other offenders have also been summoned for similar charges as part of the enforcement of a zero-tolerance approach to water theft and illegal connections.
He urged communities to support the government’s efforts by using water responsibly and reporting illegal practices.
