The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State has announced Hon. Mohammed Lawal Kurya as its candidate for the forthcoming Kaura Namoda South State Constituency by-election.
The State Secretary of the party, Naziru Ibrahim Rufai, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Gusau.
Rufai said Kurya emerged following a consensus among aspirants after consultations with party stakeholders in the constituency.
According to him, 14 aspirants initially indicated interest in the seat, but only four purchased nomination forms. The party later reached a consensus, allowing Kurya to fly the party’s flag in the by-election.
He said the selection process followed directives from the PDP National Secretariat after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, released the timetable for the by-election.
The process was reportedly supervised by a five-member committee from the PDP National Secretariat, led by Nasir Mohammed, alongside an INEC representative in the state.
Rufai expressed confidence in the party’s chances, citing recent policy implementations by the state government.
The by-election is scheduled to fill the vacant seat representing Kaura Namoda South in the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
