Former Morocco head coach, Herve Renard, has said that the 2025 Ballon d’Or award should go Achraf Hakimi of PSG.
The Frenchman is of the opinion that his former player performed better than the likes of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha and Kylian Mbappe this year.
He said the Morocco international is ‘the best player’ in Africa at the moment.
Hakimi had a season to remember with French Ligue1 side PSG, winning major titles with the club.
He was also pivotal for the club’s Champions league triumph but was helpless in a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final
Renard, who coached Hakimi between 2016 and 2019, spoke to Morocco Worldwide News.
The 56-year-old, as quoted by TNT Sports, said, “He is one of the best players in the world today. For me, he is the Ballon d’Or of this season…”
He further pointed out that the full-back has been consistent all along from Dortmund to Inter Milan and now PSG.
“Today, Achraf Hakimi is the best player on the continent,” he added.
France Football, the organisers of the Ballon d’Or, have set September 22 for the 2025 award ceremony at the Théâtre du Chatalet in Paris.
