The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani Aliyu, has called on farmers and herders in Zull-Gandi village, Bauchi Local Government Area, to live in peace and avoid actions that could lead to conflict.
The call came during a peace meeting the commissioner held with traditional and community leaders in the area.
The meeting was organized to address rising tensions between farmers and herders.
In a statement shared by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili, the commissioner urged farmers not to plant crops along rocky paths or roadside areas that are commonly used as grazing routes by herders.
He also advised farmers to harvest their crops on time so that animals don’t end up grazing on them, which could lead to fights.
At the same time, he warned herders not to let their animals destroy farmlands or enter farms before the crops are harvested.
“We can only have peace if we all cooperate, talk to each other early, and follow the law,” CP Aliyu said.
He made it clear that anyone who breaks the law or tries to cause trouble will face serious consequences.
He also encouraged traditional rulers to continue working closely with security agencies to promote peace and unity in farming communities.
