Inter Miami captain, Lionel Messi, has overtaken Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal record.

Two goals scored by Messi for his club against New York Red Bulls on Saturday night took him to 764 non-penalty goals across his entire career—one more than Ronaldo, who has 763 in his basket of goals.

TouchlineX reports that Messi scored twice in the 5–1 win over the NYRB.

Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the game for about 15 years now, winning 13 Ballon d’Or titles between them.

Ronaldo already has over 930 goals as he chases 1,000 career goals.

Just this season, Messi, 38, has scored 22 goals and made seven assists in 28 appearances, while Ronaldo, 40, has bagged 35 goals and four assists in 41 games for Al-Nassr in the 2024–25 campaign.

The brace scored on Saturday night also marks Messi’s sixth brace in the last seven games.

The win took Inter Miami to 41 points after 21 games, placing them seven points adrift of Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati, with three games in hand.
